\\Chloe Bennet was right to call out Hollywood racism but wrong to change her name//

\\I don’t blame stars for whitewashing their names to get on – lots of minorities do it in the jobs market. But there is a moral case against this//Arwa Mahdawi
There is already a Chloe Wang, so, no racism then.!
Hollywood only allows one name to be registered, for instance did you know Stuart Grainger was born James Stewart.
The rules
Spotlight is the leading casting directory for the industry. Visit www.spotlight.com and type in the name in the search box on the top right hand side. If an artist comes up that means there's already a Spotlight member with that name and you will be required to choose another. Please note however, if a name does not come up in the search it does not mean a name is immediately available.
Neither Equity nor Spotlight is able to hold or reserve names for future use, or for artists whose subscriptions expire. If your membership subscription runs out then a current or new subscriber may successfully apply to use same name in the meantime.
You should always double-check different spellings and abbreviations of a name, since neither Equity nor Spotlight will accept similar names, even if they are not identical.

Jet Li
Brandon Lee
Jackie Chan.

Stage Names have always been part and parcel of showbusiness . Priscilla White = Cilla Black Marion Morrison = John Wayne Harry Webb = Cliff Richard. I don't see this as any different.

It was NOT racist . She wanted to use her own name but someone had already registered that name so it could not be used. This is a very common problem it happens to lots of people who try to register their name to use in showbusiness . She was annoyed that she was not allowed to use her own name and incorrectly played the race card.
I think many Producers/Directors would expect an actress named Chloe Wang to look more Oriental than she does......so perhaps in some respects she is correct; once she adopted a more Western surname she may have been considered for more roles her previous surname would have allowed.
Although I am not sure it is racism per se, just lazy-thinking and stereotyping. And as with ALL things in La-La-Land it is the 'bottom-line' which drives decisions....

Yes, I believe that Chloe Bennet makes a sound point.
If racist preconceptions based on names didn't exist in Holllywood, then her stage name would be something equally Asian-sounding.
Just because there's already a Chloe Wang doesn't mean that Ms Bennet's experience of casting decisions is false.
If you look at her, you wouldn't think she was half Asian. But my guess is that with a name like Chloe Wang, some (by no means all) casting directors would think, "I'm not looking for a Chinese person for this role."
By Anglicising her name, she at least gets a chance to get her foot in the door for a wider variety of roles.

She can call her self what she wants but not Chloe Wang as that name already exists.
and most producers will look the person up to see if their look matches what they are after.
