I prefer ALDI
Which is BETTER?
It's like asking "Tesco or Sainsbury, which is better?"
It depends on what your expectations are....and it's purely opinion, anyway.
They're very similar.....
We've only got a Lidl in my nearest town, and an Aldi in the next - or is it the other way round? I can never remember which is which, so I guess I don't notice any difference.
we have both side by side so I usually go into both to see the specials..Lidl has bakery so buy bread and goodies in there. there is much of a muchness about them would still shop in Lidl if ALDI wasn't there..
I prefer Lidl.
ALDI do better plants ! lol ergo my preference !
Understandable minty. I'm not a gardenist. Lidl is close by, Aldi is a twenty minute drive. If I'm in the area I'll drop in if I have time, but rarely buy anything.
Both have their merits. I think the quality of produce is better at Lidl but the variety is better at Aldi.
I prefer Lidl as well, but that is mainly due to there being 4 x Lidl but only 1 x Aldi near me. The bakery in Lidl is definitely worth the trip !

Are you OK Mikey?

You talked about Lidl without mentioning wine.
Hoppy....I am trying to be a reformed character !
I prefer Lidl, but they are so closely matched that it is a matter of which things you buy, really. Lidl's wines are very, very good.
Aldi closed their local branch here, so I tend to get to Lidl far more often.

However, once I'm in an Aldi or Lidl store I struggle (in general) to see any real differences. They stock similar products (probably sourced from the same manufacturers), at similar prices. Even their store layouts are the same. (I was in the Ipswich Aldi the other day and I knew where to find everything because their store is almost identical to the Stowmarket Lidl).

The only major factor which draws me to Lidl (other than simple geography) is their Super Weekend deals which, most weeks, include decent quality wine at really low prices. For example, their Bordeaux Superieur is a damned good wine for £4.99 (which could cost £8.99 elsewhere). However, for those who get there early enough, it's on offer at just £2.99 this weekend. Aldi also have good wines but I've yet to see them match offers like that one.
I prefer Aldi. I just wish they had a bakery like Lidl.
PS: I think that I've just done Mikey's job for him ;-)

They're getting there, Sharon!

the remaining 23 Christians in Britain will be outraged. The rest will shop wherever's cheapest.

Unusually glib response. Still. It appears that the people of Belgium, Germany and of course Greece are similarly not pleased with Lidl. It was even a topic highlighted on Belgian TV. No such discrimination though when it comes to minarets on Islamic buildings.
//Customers have also pointed out that some of the Halal meat products on offer at Lidl appear to feature buildings with minarets - a piece of Islamic religious architecture.//
