I've just learned, whilst on holiday, of the death of an elderly gentleman In our village. He was 94 and was a bit of a devil right to the end. He had a special seat next to the bar and I loved to have a chat to him and buy him the odd drink. Somehow a certain thread of the tapestry which makes up my life seems to have been unravelled.
If you have someone in your local community whom you value, could you just check that they're ok tonight or tomorrow? You never know when it will be someone you cherish.

He too died and one night in the pub I sat in his empty chair. The landlord said Bill won't like that you know.
Suddenly all the cigarettes on the shelf flew off and landed on the floor.
I got off Bills chair and never sat in it again!
