Can Your Remember What Happened On Your 1St Day Of School?

Following on from the Prince George at school thread.....
Mine was in Bolton-le-Sands, a primary on the A6 right next to a humpback bridge on the canal, one Mrs Swain running the establishment and quite ferocious, her husband built like a six ft six willow tree.
I had one of those swivel crayon and pencil boxes.
I can remember sitting under the table and refusing to come out - all sorts of bribery tried to no avail....the parental units coming at lunch time to rescue me.
The second day, I can not remember.
I got my revenge later when the Mrs Swain tried to make me eat a banana and got more than she expected when a barf projectile caught her square on.
Over to you....

I can recall an earlier day better, when the same school held a sort of fayre on the grounds. I think my mother was sounding out the place. We visited a number of stalls but the one at the bottom or the field I recall is best, where I rolled the ball down and if it went into one of the holes, one won a prize. I seem to recall being given the ball back as I'd not been ready, or some such feeble excuse; it went into the hole the next time and I got a tube of bitter orange sweets. Different because before then all sweets had been just, well, sweet.

I loved school ( although I cried at lunch-time on my first day at Grammar, because it all felt so strange).
1st day, I remember standing with the neighbouring children while my mum took a photo with the box-Brownie. My birthday is Aug. 20th so I had only just turned 4. Mum had taught me to read (as I did my children) so I met Mrs.Lawrie, she showed me where the books were and I spent the day happily reading while she sorted-out the other children. I refused to eat the school lunch and after the 1st week I walked home to eat.
N.B. I soon read my way through the reception class books and was sent to knock politely on the door of the next class up so I could use theirs. Eventually they gave up, shifted me up a year and after a while just sent me to the Library to read - which I loved. :)
