Hp Deskjet 3520 Black Ink Problem

Black ink was working perfectly, a couple of weeks ago. Now just a blank page on the black, not fading or smeary, just completely blank. Screen says black is around a quarter fullbut the cartridge is quite old.. I dont use the printer every day, perhaps once every month.. I have tried loosening the ink over steam and black comes off on my finger so I know there is ink in there. Tried everything on HP Support page, so dont need the link. Do I need a new computer now? Wondering whether to try a new cartridge but if it still doesnt work I will definitely have to buy a new printer. Unless there are any reputable companies that still sell this model, do you know of any with a guarantee? Thanks all.

You may need a new printer, but not sure why you will need a new computer.

Is there an option to print a test page??
If you don't use it regularly, the ink will probably clog up and you'll need to do a"nozzle clean" if you have the option, probably somewhere in your printer settings/options??

I found similar problems and was using the printer almost exclusively for text, swapped to a laser printer and no problem since, The few things I need in colour I have done on the high street.

I've just read that link.
The "nozzle clean" is referred to as a "printhead clean".
Have you tried this - its under solution 6, step 4 in that link??
Mine gets clogged as well, as I don't use it regularly - I once had to perform the clean about half a dozen times to get rid of all the clogged up ink.
Print a test page, then do a couple of cleans and then print another test page and see if there's any noticeable difference between the 2.

Inkjet printers tend to give problems when not used regularly.. the nozzles/heads become blocked with dried ink.
If you can manage with black ink only, why not get a Mono laser printer .. they dont suffer with the same problems you get with an inkjet and they are readily available from around the £30 mark.
They are great as long as you dont need colour !

Thanks all, I have had the printer for five years and have decided to buy a new one, the HP Deskjet 3630, seems very good value and I have tried everything with the 3520. Treat myself!
