I organise a lunch club each month for our U3A. After our return from holiday I got organised and found a venue for October. On our return home I received a phone call from our venue in two weeks times. They have no knowledge of our booking for the 27th of this month. I had booked it with a gentleman over the phone, discussing menus etc. Apparently he had left earlier this month and had not put it in the diary. All the venue had was my name and number and a question mark in their diary. They say they cannot fulfill the booking so it has been cancelled. I have had to find an alternative venue for that date. I have done that. I now have to contact about 40 people to advise them of change of venue. I spent ages on the phone last night phoning people to advise of changes.
I sometimes wonder why I do this. Is the aggro worth the effort?

We remember all the times things went wrong, but bet you'll still have a great time.

At least you found out before turning up on the day.

Makes you wonder doesn't it, Caran. Well done you though for re-arranging it.
Could you not have emailed U3A pals though.

Haven't got email addresses which would have made life easier.
If I were you I'd see if I could get their email addy's at the next lunch, Caran. It would make it easier if it ever ( hope it doesn't though ) happened again.
I would definitely collect email addresses (would a FB page help?) - might as well make the most of modern technology.

I know what you mean, I have had three arrangements blow up in my face this week and have had to spend a lot of time sorting them out. I am supposed to be taking my blood pressure at home most days but I haven't dared - it's been turned up to 11 all week.

Also I have had to look after our skittles and lunch venue As normal couple are on holiday.

Today I had four people who didn't turn up. I have to now get in touch with said people and advise I had to pay for their meal as not notified previously. Would you like my life???
If it's getting to be a bind delegate or stop doing it - depends how much pleasure it also gives really.

Skittles are about twice a year. Due to proper organisers holiday. Unfortunate the hassle there has coincided with lunch club problems,
