manager trouble..
7 Answers
i work as a delivery girl in a shop and also a sale assistant, and where i work everyone is having trouble with the manager. she annoys everyone my taking so many breaks, if she gets to work at about 7am and then she will leave at about 7:30 till about 8:30 maybe and phone for the girl i work with to let her in upstairs - the shop is underground.
the manager then disappears for coffee/cigarette breaks whenever she likes, and she also books hair/nail/opticians appointments during work time. Once she went for a manicure i think and then when she got back she then went for her break!
this is really annoying all of us sales assistants who work there because no-one wants to say anything to her.
the girl who i work with isn't even a manager and she has been given a key to the doors presumably so none of the managers have to come in at 7am!!
is there anything that can be done about this kind of thing anonymously though? as i have heard that someone once went to the area manager and complained but then the manager somehow found how and then made their life hell and they actually then had to leave!
any ideas?
many thanks

if she didn't do this, would your job be easier?
if not, i would say its not up to you to monitor her.
if you end up no better off, whats the point of kicking up a fuss? if she gets pulled up about it she will know one of you is responsible - and make your life miserable - and do you really want her breathing down your neck all day.
i would only do something about this if you are having to take up her slack

Have every sympathy as went through much the same thing as a Saturday girl in a shop. My manager was obnoxious, took excessive breaks and was just horrible to everyone. The only way we got rid of her was when she was so rude to a customer, the customer somehow got hold of an area manager's home number and rang that person on a weekend. She was sacked very, very promptly. Maybe you need a friend to pose as a customer, who needs to complain to the manager, when the manager isn't there as she's having her nails done, and as her complaint isn't addressed, she then takes her complaint further.
Not a very good solution, but I wish you all the best with this one.

do the deputy managers agree with you? do they know she does this.
i would suggest mentioning it to them and let them deal with it - say you will support them if questioned though.
i know these things are annoying, but its not worth causing yourself trouble - especially when it doesn't really affect your job - its just that you have a sense that she's getting away with something and thats not fair
