Whilst walking on the five weirs walk today, I came across a mink hunting in the water and on the river bank. The hunt was successful as it managed to catch a rat.
As I said in the title, I've never seen a mink before.

Wow, I don't think I'd recognise a mink if I saw one.

Apparently, they're pretty common, Jo. They've decimated the water vole population in this country.
Sure it wasn't a vole it caught.
Question Author
Definitely a rat Sam. Unless it was a long tailed water vole :-)
Sorry to doubt you Melv, you would be amazed when I take people on nature walks, see a water vole and are convinced it's a rat. If you are not keen on none native predators, you could look for a local vole protection group and let them know the mink's location.

I'm going to let my local wildlife group know about its location. I also understand that otters predate mink.
I wish more things would eat them, bloody nuisance.
Eat what, a rat, a vole or a mink ???
But they make lovely coats.
