Mobile Top-Up Problem

I have a small Pay-as-you-go Nokia phone. Yesterday i tried to top it up first with my card and then cash neither time worked. This mornong my wife tried with cash it failed againand the shop assistant said that after a whole the Top-up card stops working and he gave her a 12 digit number and said type this number into the phone and that will allow the top-up to go ahead. that is all the info she has given me but noother information on HOW to do this. Being nearly 80 Ihave NO idea how to proceed with this so any help will be GREATLY appreciated as I've paid £10 and nothing for it so far.

do you have a voucher?
If so, there should be a contact number to either phone or text your network?
Which network are you on by the way?

Vodaphone. N0 I don't have anything as my wife did the transaction and just gave me the number.

Dial 2345 on the phone you want to top up and select the "voucher " option. Then you type in the voucher number.

Do you have a vodaphone shop where you live.If so pop in and they will sort it out for you.
