Hello. I need help in explaining two answers please. The first is "last but one in political residence". The answer is ( I don't think I am spoiling it for others) is fairly obviously "number 10". But I don't get the " last but one " part. The other is " logical person sure to succeed? I am confident the answer is "natural" and I sort of see the connections but I should like an explanation from the experts plea

There's also a couple of clues I can't complete yet but I'll struggle on with them for a bit.

Tony Blair lived at 11 Downing Street due to it being bigger.
The other as you say is just a straight clue.

Natural - Logical

Someone sure to succeed - 'He/She's a natural'

Thank you Mamyalynne but I must confess I still don't see it. Is it because Number 11 is the last one in the street? If that is the logic I must confess I think it is a bit feeble!

Number ten - last but one in a cricket team & the residence

Sorry Mamya...
Question Author
Thanks also for the other explanation. I didn't know that natural meant logical. One to add to vocabulary list. Did you have those in primary school?
steven
Ah Cricket - no wonder I am out big time there - sorry Steven.
I'm sure we did, on slates I think ;-)

My thanks are getting a bit confused. The one that appeared after Lie-in King's explanation was actually meant for Mamyalynne. Now an extra thank you to you, sir. It makes sense now ( but I still don't think it a very good clue)

Sorry, am faffing around here trying to do three things at once - if you wanted one, Steven, here's a thesaurus link for 'logical/natural' -

I cannot imagine you faffing, sir. SWMBO accuses me of faffing quite regularly so I know what it means!
While I am on May I ask for help with one of the two clues where I struggled to find an answer please.
He clue is " had to fathom hack appearing in British Army barracks. I have d?e?c?t. I think I remember a scandal at Deepcut barracks ( but I am not sure) and that would fit. But the rest of the clue defeats me.
Could someone either explain or correct me please?
steven
Question Author
Sorry. It's just hit me. Deep is hard to fathom and cut is to hack.
