Wedding, Out Of Hand?

After reading Mamyalynne's description of the wedding, I cast my mind back to a wedding I went to a couple of years ago. Over three hundred guests, photos at the reception took nearly three hours. People started going to the local Burger King due to starvation. It was early summer but with a cool breeze, standing outside people were turning blue. The Best Men's speech, yes two of them took an hour and a half and was irrelevant to a lot of the guests. The meal must have cost the venue about £2 each. What on earth are weddings becoming, I just wish I had sent them a cheque for £200, with the outfits, travelling, drinks and gift, I would have been quids in.

1977, parents garden, family produced the food, everybody brought the booze, brilliant day, probably circa £200 including marquee.

We went to a wedding just a couple of years ago. The recption was in a posh restaurant in London. On arrival there was a couple of plates of teeny bites being passed around but that was it. Everyone was whispering when the meal was starting? Hours later and people are getting really tipsy as they were drinking on empty stomachs. Guests even started walking to a local Sainsbury's to buy sandwiches! Looking back it was hysterical- nobody dared to ask the bride and groom where on earth the meal was that had been written on the invites!

My wedding 42 years ago was a real shoestring affair, I agree a lot has got out of control with some.

This recent family wedding in my opinion cost too much but they paid for it themselves and they aren't children - their money to spend as they see fit.

No one went hungry either - a wedding breakfast of three courses at 3pm, evening supper at 9.30 and midnight feast lol.

If they're happy, then so be it.

A while back, I googled the venue for an upcoming family wedding Stateside. After looking at the slick photos and the varied food offerings, I saw in the small print the note that the average wedding cost in the region of $32,000 to $34,000. I nearly choked on my dinner. I think the average cost here in the UK is £25,000. There will always be those who are willing to pay whatever necessary to get a dream day.

Sorry sapelsam have been away for a few days! Nope no meal ever arrived - guests started passing out drunk in the outside seating area lol! Everyone was whipping out their invites to compare with each other to prove it said sit down three course meal! Yet nobody dared ask where it was!! Lol
