Bequeathed My Body .

I have now officially bequeathed my body to Cambridge University Medical School.
It will be used for students to practice on. I think it is the least I can do to repay the debt I owe to Cambridge Addenbrokes for saving my life, my wife's life and my youngest son's life over the last 30 years. What are others views?
It is very easy to do ,once registered if you die in hospital the medical school will arrange to collect the body , if you die outside hospital all the family have to do is arrange for my body to be taken to an undertaker for refrigerated storage and the medical school will pick it up.
No funeral so no expense. The medical school pay all the costs for death certificates etc.
The family get a framed certificate to commemorate the donation.

^ I'm almost 67 and my Dad popped his clogs at 68, but my Grandfather went on to be 93 , so I've got it done now just in case.

Generally you can't be an organ donor and donate your body to a medical school.

They refused my brother's body as he weighed too little at the time of death. I am signing up for it too, never wanted a funeral of any sort and this seems the ideal solution.

lankeela , Yes there is a minimum weight requirement specified on the bequeathal form, if you are below that they won't take you.
Not a problem in my case though.

Good for you, EDDIE. I'm still struggling with trying to make Mr J2 realis that he is mortal and a) make a will and b) decide what will happen to his remains. He resolutely refuses to help me on this -he's 84 !

Only know of two people whose bodies were refused by our local University. One friend was riddled with cancer at the end and the other had had a post mortem and organs removed. I went to a memorial service at the University of Dundee for the families of those whose bodies had been donated. Very moving service.
