Blameworthiness. It was in The Sunday Times.
I saw it solved on AnswerBAnk by geo0939. The answer was BLAMEWORTHINESS (Guilt) and it's 15 letters!

BESS about an anagram of MOTHER IN LAW

Is that elegant - or what!
It was an anagram of mother-in-law with Bess around it, by the way.
A bit of near-synchrography, there, C!

No problem, QM! The point is that we both will always remember that clue for its ingenuity. Cheers!

PS How did you work in the italicised lettering?
It's done by using html code now, C.
To get italic, put a left-arrow (that's one of these <) followed by the letter i (for italic) followed by a right arrow (that's one of these >). Then put the word/phrase to be italicised (let's say that's your own name) then put another left arrow followed by a slash (that's one of these /) followed by another letter i followed by another right arrow. And voil...when you enter this, you should have an italicised version of your name! For bold print, just substitute two letters b for the two letters i and for underlining, just substitute two letters u for the two letters i. Cheers
