I don't think that thinking about frowning on a gizmo that means you can annihilate hundreds of innocent people slightly faster with it than you can without it, is making any kind of concession.
That's like selling combat knives without the serrated edges - it's not actually addressing the heart of the issue, just tiptoeing around the unimportant details, maybe ... then again, they don't mean it, so who cares?

Can't find the details but somewhere I read that they were asking for a more significant concession, wouldn't trust them further than I could throw them. They are wanting to extend the right to carry a weapon into another state, in other words if you visit a state with stricter gun controls than the one in which you live then the rules of your home state take precedence.
Well there has to be a start somewhere. Being realistic the US is not going to wake up tomorrow and say no more guns so small in raods have to be made to get the ball rolling.
I still dont think though this will solve the problem of their 'nutters'. Remove the guns (if you could) they will just use something different like a truck.
It is estimated there are in excess of 400million guns in the US no way are they going to go away quickly.
There are vast swathes of the US where there is no proper law enforcement, basically you are on your own, so a total ban as in the UK is just not practical.
Although the US is top of the ownership the Germans are 3rd on the list and we dont see issues there. In addition I undertand in Switzerland every man over 18 has to keep a working gun at hand, there are no problems there either.
So IMHO a two pronged attack is needed. Firstly to tighten the gun laws (no need for anyone to have semi or auto weapons for instance) and secondly get to the bottom of what drives these nutters.
