Every day's a school day - even at my advanced age :+(

I'm not a golfer, I only watch a little bit on TV - usually by accident rather than design - as happened today when I was looking for something to while away a few minutes whilst I ate my lunch.

I've seen the word TITLEIST on golfers' caps over the years and always assumed it was pronounced "Tit leist" ... until I heard it pronounced as "Title ist" today ... at least I've never embarrassed myself by asking for their products by name - mainly because I have no idea what they make ...

ho and indeed hum

LOL. I always thought it was Tit leist until a couple of years ago. I was soon corrected.
Titleist are manufacturers of golf equipment.Title ist is the correct pronunciation
My dad said the same thing once, when I told him the correct pronunciation, much mirth ensued & mum wouldn't let him forget it for a while - "Trust you, you would think it was that" :-)
Had exactly the same experience, Dave! Having studied German at uni, always heard this brand in my head as tit leist. Wasn't until watching some golf coverage that I heard the commentator say it as title -ist, and the penny dropped. Still looks odd to me, though....
I've never seen it either but am please to say I pronounced it right!..
Had a friend who took some persuading that Portakabin was pronounced Port-a-kabin and not, as she insisted, Port-aka-bin
I read your interpretation as tit lice and now feel the need to go for an infestation check. :-(
