I have recently parted with 100 quid deposit for a new garage door. The company has failed to turn up twice and now I am unable to contact them by phone. The address on the invoice is a business centre, but they have never heard of them. Trading standards have already had a complaint about them. Is there anything else I can do? I would like to know if they are still trading - or have they just done a runner?

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.Try contacting the Watchdog programme on BBC1. They often do a spot on dodgy dealers and may have received other complaints. Am afraid that if you paid your deposit by cheque, you won't see it again. Thats one good reason for using a credit card.
Can you ask your bank to check into which account the cheque was paid? This might give some clue as to who these people are, and a possible way for the police to track them own, although my guess is that they are probably too hard pressed to follow this up.
