my granddaughter has torn her helly Hansen coat ,an L shaped tear ,has anyone used fabric glue if so how was it .x

You can get patches of material which can be ironed on to fix tears. Slide the patch under the tear - warm iron and the job's done.

I wonder if it'd work on a leather jacket. Got one with tears I've not had the heart to sling, so it's been on the "repair needed" pile for a few years. Every now and again I look at it and think that it'd cost too much to repair and I ought to sling it... next time.

If you look on Amazon OG, you'll find lots of choice and fairly cheap; it could be worth a try.

Can't get to other side though; that's be between the outside with the tear and the inner lining.

The stuff we've used is sort of glue-impregnated fabric - it becomes sticky when you heat it ie, you don't have to get to the inside to sprinkle the powdered glue on to it. You cut a small piece of glue-fabric, just bigger than the tear, slip it through the tear, position it carefully and then iron from the outside (using a tea-towel or similar to protect the garment.

Did have a look on Amazon. Apologies to mallyh, but for leather repairs. Bit of a jungle; I'm sure many of the descriptions are deliberately vague because they don't wish to admit that they are selling a liquid in a tube in the hope it'll bond the edges, rather than a proper patch & glue product.
