I've never been measured but always take a million bras into the changing rooms and spend ages trying them all on in various sizes and styles. I don't like underwired ones, or ones with seams, the m&s ones I buy are perfect for me.
However, even though I like the style I buy, I would never buy without trying them on first, even the same size can vary.

I like M and S bras but not their fitting service. When I need new ones I buy loads from their website at once. I buy anything that looks like it might fit pretty much regardless of colour or design and then I have a massive try on at home. All the ones that past the fit and comfort test are then tried under a variety of shapes of top. You just can't do that in a shop.
I was surprised last time I asked to be measured in
M & S. She didn't measure me saying they are not allowed to any more. When I asked how she was going to decide what I needed she replied it was all down to her eye! She came back with a bra from every size under the sun and expected me to sort out my own size.
I didn't bother!

My experience is that sizing (and shape) has always varied from brand to brand and from style to style in clothing. Its most noticeable in bras because there is the least margin for error in bras..its further complicated by the fact that busts are not only different sizes but different shapes and there is also a degree of choice in the shape that one might choose to be and this can also change depending on what you choose to wear...oh and as we all (well those of us who wear bras know) size and shape can vary from month to month and also changes as we get older.......you'd cry if you didn't laugh.....
