No crossword last week. SWMBO took us to Bruges (or Brugge as the locals call it. I had never been before. It was worth missing the crossword for and that is saying something!.
Anyway I have just about finished this week's but there is one that I just can't see:
Number in favour of second man being given a hearing. I hVE ?r?c?I?e. So it could be "practise" or " practice" but I can't work out why. And maybe it is a word I haven't thought of!

And there's another where I think I know the answer but, again, cannot fathom out all of the reasoning.
State in which fool's seen sense
I have s?n?t? so I think it is "sanity" . I can see "nit" in it and sanity fits with the sense part but it is not all hanging together for me.

As ever, I should be glad of guidance

Procaine- number,anaesthetic (something that numbs).
(to) state = (to) SAY around NIT (fool) = SANITY /sense
Procaine (number; anaesthetic) - 'pro' (in favour of) + "Cain(e)" (given a hearing)

Yes - Sanity - 'nit' (fool, in) 'say' (state)
