I (like youself) have tried hydrocortisone cream but this is not something I like to use often and I've just dicovered something that really helps the eczema I have been plagued with on my palms.
If you have some smallish areas that are particulary angry, I can recommend Witch Doctor Gel smoothed on before settling down for the night. By morning, they are less red, less sore and certainly less itchy! I thought that the witch hazel would dry the skin out too much, as it is a natural astringent, but in fact this is not the case. The deeper layers of skin are quite smooth and it seems to hasten the drying out of the top dead cells.
Hope this information is useful - but IMHO anything's worth a try when you have this unpleasant condition. Good lick!
