I'm sad to see an obituary of Iona Opie in today's Guardian. The books she wrote, in conjunction with her husband Peter, have given me so much pleasure over the years. One of my treasures is an original copy of 'The Lore and Language of Schoolchildren.' I may have to read it again.

Iona Opie!

A very special Lady - RIP.

I would have loved to have known her.
That would indeed have been wonderful, agreed.
She sounds a fascinating woman.
But, I find it very strange that "All three children had been sent to boarding schools so they should not distract from their parents’ work." This when the parents were researching things so entwined in childhood...it's lore and magic. Very odd.

I suspect it was because they were never at home, Pasta. They travelled around the country for their sources.
