wait [your h is wrong]
Question Author
sorry - should be ?a?t
the answer to 11 across is amphitheatre, which gives the t at the end of wait.
Question Author
many thanks bookbinder, could you explain to me why the answer
is wait.
waits (archaic )Street singers of Christmas carols.
It's usually written as 'waits', in the plural. 'Waits' were medieval (?)singers who used to wander around a town centre, especially at Christmas, and entertain in return for money. If 'waits' is plural, then 'wait' is - logically - one of those singers.
