We used to have a member (Methyl) who refused to attempt an answer to any question unless he knew the make, model and serial number of any device, together with details of its CPU, RAM and hard drive, along with details about the questioner's ISP, the maiden name of their great aunt and the colour of their underwear - or so it seemed, anyway ;-)

However I take you point that a little bit more information would often help here in 'Technology'. I get fed up with seeing questions about email problems with no indication whatsoever as to whether the questioner is using a PC, an Android phone or an iPad, or, indeed, whether they're trying to access their mail through their web browser or a dedicated app.

Buenchico, thank you...let's see if abers take notice, i remember methyl lol
Methyl was brilliant. Helped my family to get £3000 back from a bank. Was banned I think.
It is a bit of a rant. People who are not technically minded simply do not know what info to give unless they are asked for it and are usually instructed on how to find it out.

There are people who have been using this site for years who still can't even post a link!
Wow some blasts from the past on there. Anyway mine is red.
I've actually met people (at work!) who think the screen is the computer, not realising that the computer is under the desk!
The worst of all, though:

"Hello IT"
"Hello. I was just (insert any IT-related activity) and I got an error."
"OK, I'll try to help you with that. What was the error?"
"Oh, I've got no idea."
