Chicken From The Old Days

Aldi have always done a decent 'free range' bird, but they have really upped their game since I last had a whole chicken from them.

Tonight's was exquisite - like chicken from the 'pre factory farming' era - full of flavour, slightly gamy even, and the meat clung to the bones as evidence that the bird had at least walked around the yard a few times.

I don't know how they do it for around £6 a bird (when the usual supermarket suspects charge twice that and my fancy butcher would want £15 for an equivalent bird) - but I'm damn glad they do!

Washed down with a nice bottle from my new friends at Rude Wines (of whom more later).

Cheers

Rude Wines

Like the sound of that, Dave.

Do they sell naughty beers as well ?.
Don't forget to pick up a bird as well tony. :-) x
Was it a game old bird, Dave? There's one or two of them on here.
I must admit that tonight's chicken was the best I've tasted since granny used to send me out into the yard to catch tomorrow's dinner.........
I put it down to the skill and expertise of the chef though.....not Mr Aldi............ :-(
I had a delivery due from Rude Wines, Tony...with two free wine glasses....the courier dropped the box.......he'll have another go tomorrow..... :-)

I'll do my best, Barsel ;-)

.the courier dropped the box.

Remove the banana skin for tomorrows attempt, gness.
Do my best!!!!! Oh I know all about Tony's bird picking up!!!! ;-)
Oi madam, no grassing ^^^^^^^^
A pint of G and you have my silence...... :-)
Done and I certainly have been.
The last chicken I bought from Aldi was full of water!

I bought an organic free range one from Tesco some time ago. £7 but it was only big enough for 2 people, I would have needed 3 of them to feed us all!! It tasted just how I remembered chicken tasting when I was a kid.
And just as good as the chicken is the Aldi Aran wool..... bought six balls today and it's bliss to knit with.... :-)
Eat the chicken, knit a ganzie,,,,, bliss :-)
Mmmm.......knitting's now covered in crumbs from their delicious sloe gin mince tarts though, Anne..... :-(
Anyone know where you can still get a chicken with the giblets? EU rules prohibit it, but I know that some people source them.

Thanks for the info. Dave.
