Humanely destroyed ?......there is something I don't understand here. If this beautiful animal could have been humanly destroyed, why couldn't it have been shot with an knock out dart, rather than be killed ?

The article doesn't say, but I'd suspect one can be further away and more sure of a result if giving up on live capture. If getting into residential areas one might decide not to take risks.

OG......you may be right, but they haven't said what method was used to kill the animal. I am no marksman but would it have been easy to kill but difficult to get the dart in her ?

It would be very unlikely to attack anyone. They tend to avoid people.

we had one around here about four years ago, day after my birthday, thought I was seeing things..and not too much the night before! The zoo knew about it though and they tend to live on smaller beasties like rabbits, eating what they need and storing the rest for later. They can travel up to 20 miles in a day as the bird flies....so maybe they didn't have darts to hand and needed to nail it while they had it in sight. They wouldn't even go for llamas, as I warned our llama-owners nearby....

there is a wildlife park up here through the west and many of its animals go out for a wander at night and return in the morning... the lemurs and silver arctic foxes are the biggest culprits I was told..locals just ignore them as they know they go back to be fed in their non-escape proof enclosures !!

DTC...around my way, Llamas are used as guard-Llamas, for flocks of sheep. It would be a very brave Lynx that decided to annoy a Llama !

exactly, I see Emma Watson has 8 million new Welsh fans....the DT reported on sheep being able to recognise people..and she was one of the 'tested'!

Poor Lilleth, but when livestock are attacked the danger increases - so sad she couldn't have been caught alive.
