i have a ring i would like to re-design eg melt down and start again. where could i get this done?

do you have a local jewellers, you could ask them, never heard of it being melted down and starting again, but you never know..

Jewellers only tend to do this if there is a stone you want to save, re-using metal is more hassle then starting afresh. What they might do is give you scrap value on the metal to knock off the price of making a new ring, leastways this is what happened when we had one remodelled to re-use the stone.

hmm, it's my wedding ring - i had to have it cut off when i was pregnant but i have never really liked the design of the ring, although what the ring represents is very important. I don't want a new ring as such, i want a new ring made from the old ring

I`ve had silver melted down and made into something else - maybe they can do it with gold as well

Well if you tell them this then well and good but unless they do it in front of you you'll have to take it on trust that it's the same metal :-( It is a problem I know.

I would have a look locally for an individual craftsman or artisan. Bit difficult to know where to tell you to look, but sometimes small boutiques will have jewellery by a local craftsman. I dont know if the National Association of Jewellers might help.

independent jewellers who make their own.....a local art school who operate silver and gold classes may be able to recommend their alumni....see their work first from design to end product....

because my husband chose his ring first, and i got a matching one

ps i would have happily kept the ring and cherished it forever, but as i have an opportunity now to get it fixed, i can also have a re-design at the same time

not sure where you are in the country but in Birmingham, in the jewellery quarter there are places that offer workshops, you might be able to do it yourself, other than that, i echo what the others have said, look for independent small craftshops, they'll be able to advise you

but will know where it is done

clearly there will be a charge....

I had my wife's engagement ring specifically ,designed and made by a jeweller in the Jewellery quarter .

We also had our wedding rings from another company in the quarter
