What are the "legal reasons" why Big Brother cuts the sound out on the show? Mention of products??

I would guess that it is more to do with ithe housemates discussing quasi illegal or illegal activities i.e. (I got so stoned etc.). Or when they discuss individuals who could then potentially sue the housemate for slander.
I don't remember them blanking everthing out in the other two series though - maybe it is a result of fallout from the last two shows.

The illigal activities crossed my mind but I would have the houisemates would have to sign a "hold harmless" vis a vis slander when they agreed to take part.

Not too sure why BB cuts out the sound but it proves that the show can not be "live". If they have enough warning time for conversations about drugs or Jade's shoplifting, then we must be recieving delayed footage....

There is a five minute delay on shows. During a recent "live" show I saw a clock on the cooker (they have to have one because if they don't, a lack of knowing the time can lead to total breakdown) and it was five minutes behind the time on my clock at home. The gaps relate to slander that you and I wouldn't think twice about in the pub: i.e. "I've heard that that celebrity is gay/having an affair/a murderer etc. Obviously, while we can say what we like in the comfort of our own homes, contestants on BB are not subject to the same rules and obviously don't want to get sued by anyone slandered on air.

Even so the sound cuts are way over the top. NO WAY can the housemates talk about someone or things that can't be heard
