I am trying to do some research for my potential new business. I need to find out how many small independant businesses are operating in my area at the moment. Are there any websites i.e goverment statistics that could give me some rough numbers?

Not my field, but I woulsd suggest that if you do an internet search it's better to do it on 'independent' rather than 'independant'
