I think you'll need to expand on your question. Do you want to add memory to his computer or replace his system disc with an SSD or a hybrid disc (a hard disc with some SSD in it, which improves the speed of booting and loading some programs)?

I don't think it works like that. Memory can only be as fast as the laptop can cope with, and as much as the laptop can handle too.

Some memory sites can analyse what you have and make suggestions if you visit there and download/run their programme.

if you mean ram, that will depend on your laptop make and model
some allow you to add more ram, some do not, hard drives are not memory persay, but storage devices mechanical hard drives are just that mechanical spinning platters that hold data, ssd ---
