Previous to that I have had a Garfield, Stanley, Oliver and Alfred. I tend to choose the name before I get the cat. Once Faz has gone to kitty heaven I have chosen Florence for a cat and as we will also be getting a pup, Dougal (animals sex is irrelevant).
Sally came with her name. I wanted to change it and kept calling her Bramble. But that was the name of the very similar tempered lurcher my ex and I had. It didn't seem fair to give her the same name as another much loved pooch, so Sally stayed. Now I sometimes call her by my daughter's name...
Caspar was named by some one here on AB...I had a competition when I got him. He was originally called Snowball. It didn't suit him...even though he's big and white. He's deaf, so has no idea I also call him dirtbag, little b****r, and **** you ( when he misses the litter tray ). His predecessor was Cleo...a real bossy madame. She came with that name and I didn't dare change it...;-)). Before that, my ex and I had Mitzi...another bossy girl. She was a traditional black and white moggy, so she got a traditional name.

I had a beautiful tortoiseshellthat I called Shelley.
After a few years I got a stray from cats protection league. He was a beautiful ginger and white with brilliant blue eyes. He was totally deaf. He had been named Beethoven. Now I didn't feel happy shouting Beethoven to come in, even though he couldnt hear me!
So I renamed him Keats so I had Shelley and Keats!
He was a real character. He would sit on the sideboard looking at an ornament and give it a swipe onto the floor.
I only had him a year. Some children took him away and left him down the main road. He couldn't hear the traffic and got run over. I buried him in the back garden. Shelley kept digging him up though.
When Shelley died from feline leukaemia years later I was so upset I said I wouldn't have another pet as I couldn't stand the heartbreak.

Our little, nervous, French rescue terrier is called'Tyke' - partly because we wanted to move home to Yorkshire, partly because the name he had been given by the S.P.A. was Hubert (!) and also because it is the traditional name of a nondescript terrier of doubtful . It suits him. He is loving and a pain. :)
I have a miniature Dachshund named Darcey.
I have full intentions of naming her Frankie-furter or Peppa-roni, but the breeder had given all 11 puppies names to distinguish them.
She advised we could change it and to let her know the new name so she could get the puppy used to being called by name.
However, Darcey just stuck!
Same for Bertie who my Mum ended up buying last minute!

My current foursome:
Biscuit: Highly unoriginal. There must be thousands of ginger cats with that name.
Chequers: He's black-&-white (like a chequer-board) and big and imposing (like the PM's country residence).
Moonbeam: When he was born, the markings on his coat reminded me of the patterns made by clods scudding across the moon.
Tablo: I wanted a name that reflected the kitten's 'tabbiness' and opted for 'Tablo' as a variation on 'Pablo'. At that time I didn't know she was the only girl!
The cat that moved in for a few months, and then moved out again, earlier in the year:
Silber: He had a lovely silver-grey coat but 'Silver' seemed a little bit boring. However he also had a proud Teutonic look about him,. so I translated 'silver' into its German equivalent.
