So sad that in 21 century Britain, so many people are having to rely on charities to feed them (all year, not just at xmas)

Zacs, the ONS figure you provided differs enormously from that claimed by the foundation. My definition of poverty means suffering some considerable, ongoing hardship. The ONS say //being at risk of poverty does not necessarily imply a low standard of living//
Debate away ... or did you just want a row?

I think you need to define ‘some considerable’ and the length of ‘ongoing’ (a month, a year, ?) to enable us to understand and comment on your position.
I’m not sure why you mention a row. I’ve provided statistics, and asked you questions to engender debate which have been met, by you, with feeble insults. I think you need to take a long hard look at your own glass house before throwing stones around.

Well I shall be alone all over Xmas and very glad to be so. I cannot abide the enforced merriment and lip service paid to so-called traditions. The only company I need is a bottle of gin (actually a few bottles) and some packets of smokes, both of which I have in abundance. I hope that all those who visit family and friends have a really good time, but it's not for me.
