Today I felt very queasy after seeing a young man with a tunnel in his cheek. His face, his choice but it turned my stomach.

Any trends give you the shudders?

Self harm is, as the phrase suggests, harming oneself.
Poking holes in oneself is an obvious example.
If we can be tolerant of overweight or underweight people, gays, transgenders, Black, muslims etc.. surely we can can tolerate body art whether we like it or not?
depends. Responses can be pretty much programmed into us, and disgust is one of them. We might feel it combined with pity if, for instance, we saw a war wound; when it's intentional, we might feel disgust on its own. Same if someone cut a hole in his stomach for art: fine - in a gallery in front of consenting viewers, less so if it's on the street.
It's one thing to personally dislike something, quite another to suggest that people need sectioning.

Now that is bizarre.
OG - you're talking about different types of self harm.
each to their own I suppose.
Whether it be piercings, tattoos or whatever.

However, makes me wonder what parents would say to a young child if they saw someone with a tunnel in his cheek?
How does this stupid man eat ? Wouldn't everything he put into his mouth fall out the other side ?
That he's a bloody pleb and it's going to cost a fortune to fix when he comes to his senses.
Apparently They plug them up to eat
food in via the tunnel and chew with mouth closed Mikey :-D

And to think that a mate of younger son has to have a wisdom tooth extracted via his cheek .... :-(

That was probably easier for the dentist and less painful and evasive for the client
