Does any one still use travellers cheques...? A lot of hastle - what is wrong with using your ATM card and getting money out when you need it. That way you don;t have more Euros left over at the end than you need...
Sterling - cash machines abroad cost a fortune to use (from most banks anyway).
Depends on where you're going, but a lot of the more touristy places will change Sterling cheques for the same rate as cash (comm free), significantly better rates than over here
Unfortunately travellers cheques cost more than using cash machines.

If you take sterling travellers cheques they will cost you 1 or 2% to buy and even if there is no 'commission' 5% or so to cash - hidden in the exchange rate. If you want to take sterling and are wary of ATMs take cash.

If you take euro TCs they will cost you 5% or so to buy and you may or may not be able to cash them without a fee. Any you have left over will cost you another 5% to cash when you get home.

If you use an ATM it will cost you a maximum of 4.25%, provided you take out enough at a time to minimize the effect of the minimum charge imposed by some banks.
Get a Nationwide account and ATM card. They don't charge for using a foreign ATM and they give you the commercial exchange rate instead of rip-off tourist rates.
