America is experiencing some of the worst winter weather for many years.

Its often said that what America does, we soon follow...lets hope not !

Mikey, we follow coffee drinking, gum chewing, odd speech patterns, their spelling, hula hoops and social weirdness.

The weather is the weather, not something to be imported by someone with an eye for the main chance.

I drove to the top of Mt Washington in 1994. It was mid-September and even then it was very cold and extremely windy.

I was questioning the tendency of North America weather patterns to end up over here, not really the questionable habits that you mentioned Dougie !
Well, we do get most of our weather from North America, but the worst of it is usually gone by the time it gets here.

I was in NY 22 years ago during a freeze. Gosh, was it cold! It seems to find its way through and around your clothes no matter how many layers you were wearing.
Cloverjo, I was there at Christmas in I think 1980. It was perishing. They said that with the windchill, the temperature was getting near the point where Fahrenheit and Celsius are the same (somewhere in the minus 30s, as I recall). No snow fortunately, as the sky was clear, which is why any warmth just vanished. The wind was apparently coming straight from the North Pole. And our hotel's heating packed up so we actually had to wander the streets. Fortunately things stay open on Christmas Day, we went shopping, took in a film, stopped for a service in the cathedral and had dinner in the restaurant by the skating rink in the Rockefeller Center. (Only had to wait 20 minutes for that despite not having booked.) Brrrr, though.
its been cold enough for snow up here, I finally went out today and its blooming freezing.
just checked that, it was their coldest Christmas Day ever, -1 Fahrenheit, which is -18C, though minus 25 with windchill factor.

I'm on the eastern seaboard at the moment. I've just got up and noticed the whole of the metal window frame is frosted on the inside. It was -12 here last night but with a heck of a wind so that's probably what caused it
