people with burglarious intentions used to carry cuttlefish bones so they could take impressions of a key by pressing it into the bone. I suppose the bone must be softish.

I don't understand why we don't eat cuttlefish in the UK. I often eat them in Spain and they're delicious.

Cuttlefish bones are bones Jno, texture is a bit like dried plaster of Paris. Don't know how you could get a key impression in one, unless your are a Terminator.
