There was a lot of whining from the pundits but it sounded to me like the complaints of a "sport" that has realised the game is up after 150 years of their ingrained cheating culture. I think It's good thing that these penalty decisions etc are now going to be checked.

I think the VAR panel couldn't be certain it was a clear and obvious error - the footage was deemed possibly inconclusive so the ref's decision was upheld.
So I'm not sure it was VAR that helped here- it was a ref who took a stand and got it right one two occasions and probably wrong on another

Hopefully yes and alongside they need to up the punishment for the cheats. I would suggest an immediate ban of 10 matches for a first offence and a year's suspension for a subsequent one. It will concentrate their minds (if they have one).
I stopped watching football many years ago because the preponderance of cheats among the participants was just getting ridiculous.
