Easy Peel Clementines

My pack of clementines says they are easy peel. Why are some of them easy peel and some not? Do the companies do something to them to make them like that, or is it just in their nature? How do they know they are easy peel?

its the type of clementine that they are....no one does anything to them apart from breed them like it. Its like breeding red skin on an apple or anything else

While we're on the subject , i find that the way to tell if an orange / clementine is sweet as opposed to sour is to press the skin .

If it feels spongy/ coming away from the flesh , it's almost certainly sweet - if it feels firm it's almost certainly on the sour side of the scale

To the best of my knowledge all clementines are defined as easy peelers, in fact most if not all of the smaller oranges (mandarins, tangerines, satsumas) are - straight oranges are not, such as navels, seville, blood and also grapefruit as well as lemons and limes. What does vary is whether retailers assume people know this or whether they think they can "score" by displaying them as such.

Bought some lovely looking Satsumas/Clemantines/tangerines etc from Asda and they were full of pips.....some segments had 5 pips in....great if you want to grow a citrus grove from seed but not the best eating
