flies in the house

Any tips on how to keep flies out the house? We like to keep our back door open but keep getting flies in the house. Any tips for ways to keep them out? Do fly curtains really work?

we got one [ bead curtains that is ]and no they don't work .they just aim for the gaps and whoosh their in ,they then get whacked with the fly swat

Its a bit extreme, coz i too have asked the same questions to a pest controller, and their answer was:-

To put mosquito nets on the windows, and have mosquito net doors, which you can make yourself. I know these actually work as i had them on the doors when we lived in Cyprus.

However somebody also suggested that there are some flowers you can stick onto the windows or doors, and apparently once a fly comes in, it dies automatically. I am still looking for these flowers, people have mentioned Fabreeze catalogue? or something like that, or D.I.Y. stores.

The flower things you put on the window are just stickers that are supposed to attract the flies and they then stick to it. I've seen net curtain type things that you attach to your door frame with velcro and it is like 2 sheets of net that overlap in the middle so you can still get in and out, but supposedly flies can't get in. Don't know if it works, but might be worth a go. I think they were in Kleeneze or Betterware too.

Why don't we adopt the American way and fit screen doors on the outside of our doors? I've never understood why we don't do this.

Place a small table outside your front door and do the same outside your back door.

On the tables, place a plateful of fresh horse manure.

You'll find the flies are so interested in the manure they'll not bother trying to come indoors.

If you put a plastic bottle with sweet water in leave the lid off or make slits in the sides flies will collect inside and wasps. The flower things for the windows to catch the flies are in tesco,s by the air freshners. By the way i know all the tricks as we have a farm.Elderberry trees will get millions of the littles ******* if you plant a few in the back garden .they grow quickly so next summer you will have some protection. Hope this helps someone.

I got that bead curtain and yeah the flies just go through the gaps but I also have the flower stickers and they work really well. The flies are attracted to it and then it somehow kills them after they touch it. The only problem is they go kinda crazy for a while and fly around like mad!!!!!!!!!!!!! Then you have hoover the window sills becuase of all the dead flies.
