Fractured Ribs?
28 Answers
Hi, I slipped in the bath last Friday and took a fair blow to the ribs, don't think I broke anything... at the time.
Fast forward to Monday and I came down with a sickness bug and spent a fair few hours of quite violent vomiting, bad enough to blow the blood vessels in one eye. I have been to the hospital but of course there is nothing they can do.
So nine days on I feel like I'm getting worse not better and can feel a grinding movement when I breathe...
Please tell me they will heal soon?

Well, they obviously do things differently here; I was ambulanced to hospital (I was in great pain) and I was not only X-rayed, but was scanned as well, from what I gathered from the doc. it was to make certain that there was no damage to the lungs or spleen, there wasn't, but don't ask me what they would have done if that had been the case.

Khandro.....you point is well taken and that procedure that you describe would also be used in the US and also the majority of European countries. They all tend to be more "aggressive" in the management of trauma cases as also in cancer treatment, strokes and heart disorders and especially in the treatment of cancer it is reflected in the survival rates compared to the UK.
I haven't got an explanation for you...sorry...it may be the fear of litigation or perhaps in tradition...I don't know, but there is a difference as you suggest.

Thanks divegirl . After a telephone consultation, the doc prescribed Naproxen, and some ibuprofen gel, sent it magically to pharmacy, and they delivered to me the next day! I may never leave the house again :) 1st trip out for weeks...it's a bit overrated out there ;)
Thanks for healing thoughts, right back at ya. Don't laugh or cough if possible ;)
