What's it got to do with the 'British Association of Physicians of Indian Origin' anyway, the doctor comes from Nigeria?

Anyone can complain over the GMC AOG, perhaps they felt that as people of colour they should speak up.
I doubt very much that racism is behind the barring, and have no clue if in identical circumstances a different path would have been taken.

Tragic errors were made - not helped by the fact she was doing the work of three Doctors and covering six wards.

Those aren't excuses just the facts.
It's just ridiculous the way the racism card is played in all walks of life now. She was just useless and that's it ...
she wasn't useless, though she did make mistakes. She was a trainee left in charge of the department alone as the senior consultant hadn't turned up, the IT system was malfunctioning, and she was flat out, as doctors seem to be these days. She was initially suspended from practice but the GMC seemed to want to make an example of her. Whether her race was part of this, who knows?

But this is the sort of thing that is already driving people out of the profession.

She was useless in my opinion ...
Unless I was there and observed all that went on I couldn't be as dismissive as that.

Then we're all different.
"But a leading professional body claims its decision was partly motivated by racism."

That professional body would be absolutely right, in my experience racism has been rife in the medical profession since the inception of the NHS in 1948 and admittedly has become less because of expediency....it needs doctors.....of ANY race.

"He was seen by Bawa-Garba, the most senior doctor on the shift, who had just returned from 13 months of maternity leave."

Straying from the point a moment..13 months maternity leave, when is the NHS coming to the fact that it needs to appoint fewer female doctors.....unless of course that is all that they can get?

chrissakes Sqad - you cant fail to appoint a doctor because she has just had a little baby - neither can you fire her - nothing to do with the NHS - current employment law
50% of juniors are women just as the patients are and med student intake

The lawyer on the Beeb this am - said "ya gartta understand that there are three branches here
civil , criminal and regulation ( GMC)"

and then lawyer said - " and I am civil "
oops clearly the Beeb HADN'T understood that when they hired her. - but by golly leaving that aside the Beeb were gonna explain it all to us

Lovely Charlie Stayt wanting to tie in the Dad who attacked the paedo doctor in the US - asked if victim input affected guilt ?

anbd the lawyer didnt squeal - "no of course not you idiot!"

The doctor had been convicted of gross negligence manslaughter and given a slap on the wrists on account of the facts ( see Sqad above )
and it automatically goes to the GMC ( conviction alone is grounds for a GMC hearing and sanctions )

The tribunal ( = judgey part of the GMC ) also forgave and the GMC ( yeah yeah the GMC appeals a part of the GMC - dont even ask! ) appealed to the High Court on the grounds that anyone convicted of manslaughter should be struck off and the High Court agreed

The juniors ( 8000 of them ) have put their shillings and sixpences together on the very reasonable grounds that each one may be next !

You turn up for work at some crippy hospital and the fella going off duty says "no one else has turned up - you are IT!" so you do your best - things go tots up and the Hospital whose fault it is for doing nothing and running a totally awful standard of service says - 'Nothing to do with us, she is a Bad Doctor!"

When there is a catastrophic systems failure in a Hospital it is commonplace for the admin to say - Nope not us - the doctors are crap
and this little ploy was successful in this case

The GMC take the view - of "arent we good! - we have struck off this bad doctor - now where are our great big fat pensions and kinghthoods ?"
pretty much my own thinking, PP.
Is there an Association for Physicians of English Origin or would that be deemed racist?
yes Zebo
it is called the BMA - ter daaah!
there's probably one in Australia, where they're all going.
From what I have reads about the case, there are issues with the Doctor concerned, but the colour of her skin does not appear to be one of them.
//there's probably one in Australia, where they're all going. //

No they are not, some are going just as some are coming here.

But why let the truth get in the way of a bit of anti Anglo eh?
erm - when the minister of health imposed a contract on the juniors ( there was a section of an act that allowed him to do that )

Oz and New Zealand advertised in the BMJ - come to us we will train you and give you a career - and thousands did

including shhhh Dr Sarah Wollaston's daughter
( Wollaston is a big name on the Health Select Cttee)

but you know why let the facts get in the way of the idea that there are better careers out there for adventurous juniors ? - er have any of my relations done so ? - yup

It is disgusting that some chose to use the race card over the complete incompetence killing of a little six year old, I wonder if it had been one of theirs they would be so sympathetic?
Your headline deals with nothing but the racist side so therefore you to must be disgusting?
Well said aog, and as I stated before, she was useless.
I addressed both angles given the information at hand in your link.
