Recently got a Seat Leon car, at lights the engine cuts out which is great, we had a mechanic put in a dash cam and now the engine does NOT cut out at lights or when stop?? wondered how we can put it back to cutting out when stop (no idea what this is called), TIA
I'd suggest your mechanic's taken the feed for the camera from the wrong place and that needs to be looked at.
The majority of modern cars are wired differently from those in the old days with wiring carrying data for various operations in the vehicle like your stop/start as well as power.
There may be other things not working as they should now, I'd recommend getting a proper auto electrician with experience in Seat to have a good look around while rectifying the fault.
Are you sure your battery is in good condition? I know nothing about stop/start technology but I would expect it to bypass the feature if the battery is below a certain charge level.
Does the dash cam turn off fully when you leave the car? If it stays on in a sort of monitoring mode (in case someone bumps your parked car) that can run your battery down, perhaps to the level where start/stop will be disabled.
A simple test is to unplug the power lead to the camera at the camera end - just a push-in connector. If start/stop works again that will prove it's the dashcam causing the problem.
Hymie...he doesn't want to disengage the stop-start function - he wants it to work properly the way it did before the dash-cam. (incidentally, the switch to turn stop-start "off" will be really obvious on the dashboard...there's no point in hiding it away!)
My car has stop-start and there are some specific components and wiring....and the handbook actually warns about having "extras" fitted properly such that the stop-start isn't compromised.
The purpose of my post was to alert chessington to the fact that the stop/start function can be disabled. It maybe that the dashcam installer managed to disengage the function, and it now needs to be re-engaged.
I suggest chessington reads the vehicle owners manual to ensure at least it is enabled.
Hi we have automatic car so no clutch. We have asked the mechanic to come and have a look at the car next week to see what has gone wrong thanks for all the replies
