Is it normal for a bride to tell all the guests what to wear to the wedding, (colours, hats etc) or is the woman concerned just really bossy?

A classy and polite bride would be just delighted to have her friends and family around her on the big day regardless of whether they turned up in a bin liner or a designer frock. Sorry to be so blunt but thats just my opinion. Doll xx
i'd say it was a bit cheeky as many may have to go out and buy a special new outfit, that they may never wear again, though as has been mentioned, if the wedding is themed or its just to warn others i suppose theres some method in it.
is she is being very specific or just saying - all pastels or all greens and golds or something?

There's no theme as such, but she's asked for all women to wear cream, and hats with feathers (which is hugely unpopular with the groom's family as 5 of them are vegetarian!) and all the men to wear black suits, cream shirts and top hats. This seems even more silly as both the bride and groom are well into their 50s and have had about 6 failed marriages between them!
The last wedding I went to had quite a good colour scheme idea, guests on the bride's side wore cream, yellow or gold, and the groom's wore blue, green, purple or lilac.

To be fair, what are they going to to if you don't wear what they want. Not give you any dinner? I'd wear cream underwear, if I were you, and then if they commented, you could say "Well, you didn't say it had to be showing, just that I had to wear it". And maybe a bobble hat with a feather stuck on top.
