Acrylic nails

My sister is into false nails etc and I've seen on ebay you can buy the kits they use in salons with the powder and liquid that forms into a gel. Would she be able to teach herself to use this stuff, its only for her to do on her friends and herself not for a career or anything. Can anyone recommend any books or websites that give tips on how to apply?
