Well truly didn't realise that my oven was bad as I have a double oven and maybe have used the bottom about 5 times.

Bought 2 packs of oven cleaner from Poundland £1 each. My god absolutely fabulous stuff. Put the whole of inside oven - racks, grill pan, removable trays from George Forman which looked clean to me - into the bags but left them for a couple of days.

Have just finished washing them off and the black stuff just fell from it. The racks are gleaming. Also no fumes. Will never leave this as long as I did. Fabulous.

well no replies - Can't believe this either. As I was finishing off the oven regalia - there were some cutlery lying in the water - couldn't believe when I took them out they were sparkling too.

I went out and bought more (oven cleaner) and so I going to do all my cutlery at the weekend.
I use vinegar and bicarbonate of soda for my cutlery. It comes up lovely. I'm a bit lazy with my oven. If it's that good and simple I might get some of that oven cleaner
I’m struggling to understand why you had cutlery in your oven, removed shelves etc without noticing that you were also gathering up knives and forks!

Eccles you struggle with all my posts. Stop struggling hen - you'll tire yourself out.
Must have a wee foray into Poundland if this cleaner is as good as you say JJ. Oven cleaning is one job I hate.

MaggieBee - it's simply the best but wear the gloves they supply. And no fumes.

The part I don't like is pouring all the chemical gunk down the sink.
Well if you could explain why you had cutlery lurking in your oven I wouldn’t have cause to struggle. I’m totally baffled!

If asked Mr Cake would probably say say that I am his ‘odd quirk’

And Mr Cake would be right
So you are not going to explain why you randomly have knives and forks in your oven?

I’m delighted that they have come up sparkling but just at a loss to understand how they got there in the first place!
JJ, as sparkly as it makes it, I would counsel against using oven cleaner to clean cutlery. Oven cleaner is highly caustic and unpleasant fluid. We use it on surfaces that are unlikely to come into contact with food - apart perhaps for a pizza on the shelf. I certainly wouldnt use it to clean anything I was going to put near my mouth. Good old fashioned washing up liquid and hot water should do. Although I cant help wondering how dirty your cutlery is!!!!
What is your cutlery? Is it stainless steel? Or silver? If silver, I can recommend a brilliant cleaner.
I read it as - when JJ took out the oven racks etc from the bag she placed them in some hot water to rinse, in that water was also some cutlery which has benefited from the rinsed off residual oven cleaner.
Eccles - the cutlery wasn't in the oven but JJ has bought some oven cleaner specifically to clean her cutlery.
That's how I read it mamya x
Aaah, I didn’t think about think about the residual washing up in the sink!
