Just watching and listening to the anthems at the Rugby made me think when was the last time God Save The King was sang at a Sporting event

My father noted in his diary ( I was just two weeks old and feature before that)

"Town Crier came round and told us the King had died."

During the War - it was recommended to keep the radio on the whole time and - "someone had to man the radio!"

when Princess Elizabeth ( as she then was) left for the commonwealth tour the King saw her off at the airport

and at the newsreels in cinemas
audiences gasped at how ill the King looked.

Probably 19th. January 1952 at the 5 Nations Rugby Union match at Twickenham (England vs Wales). I would think that it wouldn't have been played at either the following France vs Ireland match on 26th. January or the Wales vs Scotland match on 2nd. February. England didn't play again until 15th. March, although other 5 Nation matches were played, the long gap probably due to a period of mourning/respect.

England's first international football match wasn't until April 1952, after the King's death.

As a schoolboy, I remember that all BBC radio transmissions (there was no TV to speak of) were switched off several days, amazing really!

What happens I wonder if the monarch hops twig and for whatever reason the gender of the next one is unclear: I don’t mean trans or questioning you understand, just a situation where the succession was problematic. Should there be a gender neutral version?
