My cat has an around 2 centimeter long, thin, hard something under the skin in its neck. The cat does not seem to be in pain and it does not seem to be attached to the skin, just kinda floating under it. Maybe a piece of bone? Does anyone know what it could be from and does it need medical care?

Have you always had the cat or is it a rescue? The reason that I ask is that it sounds like a microchip. They should stay between the shoulderblades where they are implanted but sometimes they move before they settle. One of my dogs' microchips shifted to a point above his shoulder. Its been there for 11 years now and its fine.

I agree with Woofgang.

It's probably one of these:

Thank you so much! I can't belive that didn't cross my mind. I got her from a friend who had to move a few months back. I didn't even think about microchips, I was just worried when I felt something strange.
Rose are you still in touch with the friend? The registration details of the microchip should be changed to your name and address, otherwise if the cat gets lost an someone finds her, they will contact your friend and not you.
Sounds like a microchip to me too :-) you can feel it and wiggle it in my sister's dog (which is small and cat-like!) but not in my own dogs who are a bit stockier!
