Most Indian people who go there for their holidays, go in December/January time.
i agree its the best time of year to go. i went last year beg december it was wonderful, very hot although the locals thought it was 'cold' and were wearing scarves and jumpers - it gets to 60 deg in 'the summer'. it did get dark quite early and really quickly around about 5.30 if i remember correctly. the only problem we had was that the malaria tablets made us feel quite sick, i have found out since that the more expensive ones are not likely to do this.
Hi,
Went a few years years ago for 2 weeks to visit friends who were travelling. We all stopped taking malaria tablets because it is 'almost' unheard of in Goa, or at least it was at the time!.
VERY hot, you can tell the new arrivals cos they're white not brown. Bit strange being offered xmas tree baubles while roasting hot on a beach.
If you go to Anjuna market buy a drum from the FIRST person who offers you one otherwise you WILL be pestered ALL day, i guarantee it.
Buy loads of saffron to bring back as pressies for anyone who likes to cook. It is ridiculously cheap and they will love you forever or bring some back and sell it. You can make loads from the local restaurants.
It will be difficult but don't give money to the beggars. Firstly a lot of them get buses into the towns to beg, so it's almost a profession, and secondly they will follow you round every time they see you again. You have to be firm as they will, literally, be hanging off your arm.
Lastly, don't forget to haggle. Any price you see is not the real one. Cut your 1st offer to a third of the asking and don't go over half the original price.
Enjoy ya holiday

vanilla is also a good bargain, actually everything is bargain over there. although in a previous post it says xmas is the best time as not so humid, you will probably find it quite oppressive compared to european sun spots. unless i was 'unlucky' when i visited candolim a couple of years ago. was there for xmas day and flew back on the day of the tsunami. i looked out of the plane and saw this huge white line across the sea and just thought to myself 'wierd, i wonder what that is?'

hi annie, yes, the boxing day tsunami. i iive in the midlands, but flew back into heathrow(i think), one of the london ones anyway. i see what you are saying and admit i hadnt thought of it. obviously i couldnt tell you the direction of the line (eg. north/south or east/west), or indeed the flight plan of the plane, or the direction of travel during that 30 seconds or so. i think that if the line was north south, then its very possible. i just cannot think of any other explanation for a straight white line stretching for miles over the ocean..... however, if anyone has any other ideas id really like to know!
