Can A Gp Be Struck Off......

....if under NHS guideline ranges for treating a condition, they prescribe the treatment which NHS say not to unless presented with low range blood test results and severe symptoms .
GP told OH if he were to give the treatment (injections for severe Vit B12 deficiency) he would be struck off! I read somewhere that doctors can make a clinical decision based on test results and how severe symptoms are. So is the GP wrong? He won't prescribe the treatment but has referred OH to consultant. OH has been suffering symptoms for years and not diagnosed until now! Result for OH was 170 something. Thanks for your answers.

We feel he is being economical with the truth! That has happened before when he has lied to us... Unfortunately. I thought OH was going to die last week... But still no decision or diagnosis. What I am concerned with is if GP could do something and and would not be 'struck off'. Just need to know if GP is right or wrong. Thanks for helping x
Sqad like every good doctor has taken the history on trust as true in every detail
Referral to a consultant is appropriate - 170 is borderline in some unit and merits further investigation
this means that striking off the GP is a non starter
Doesnt mean you cant complain tho
( and will screw the GP up for at least two years)

Thanks sqad. Exactly what I think.... GP has blatantly lied to us before... Dates prove...I keep details. I emailed consultant am awaiting his reply.... I know GP'S can make decisions....but he isnsaving his own skin in my opinion...he knows he's failed over the years and now this is quite damning! Thanks for help.

No wonder the NHS is under strain and waiting lists for Consultant appointments are long..............why referral.
Simple answer.....give Injections of Vit B12 for 3 months and then repeat the blood test. if b12 STILL low (unlikely) then refer to a Consultant.
What is happening to medicine in the NHS?

well by comparison to the cases
this is small stuff
Dr McAlister Nov 17 - selling heroin
Dr Little - made only one mistake - writing a false presciption but 439 times !
Not following guidelines may get you into trouble
but I think he will be able to show he HAS followed guidelines. - but you know you dont like your GP - so complain !
