I'm trying to compile a CD of well-known pop/country/whatever tracks which prominently feature violins. So far I've got Come On Eileen (Dexys), Pay Me My Money Down (Springsteen), and That's What I Think (Lauper). Can you please suggest others you think would sit well on this CD?

Dixie Chicks "Theres Your Trouble"
The Devil Went Down To Georgia - Charlie Daniels
Bluebells - Young at Heart
'You Wear It Well' - Rod Stewart.
A lot of ELO
'It Must Be Love', Madness
'Cloudbursting', Kate Bush
Welcome to the Cheap Seats - The Wonder Stuff
Anything by The Levellers (though 15 Years is a good bet)

For something different, The Only Rhyme That Bites uses the strings section from The Big Country film.
'Out ot the Blue' from Roxy Music's Country Life album was always my favourite, though 'Robbery With Violins' from Steeleye Span's Parcel of Rogues comes a close second. Roy Wood used a lot of strings on his Move/Wizzard/solo stuff. Any Dave Swarbrick.
Bob Dylan- Hurricane.
The Verve- Bitter Sweet Symphony
Oasis- Whatever
Manic Street Preachers- A Design For Life
Glorybox and Roads by Portishead both feature a strings backing.
Although Roads makes me want to cry every time I hear it so I don't think it would sit particularly well next to Come On Eileen.

The Right Time or Erin Shore by The Corrs, in fact pretty much anything by them.
Quite a few violins used by The Divine Comedy and My Life Story. Also the Colin Blunstone hit Say You Don't Mind - nothing but strings and vocals.
Thought of this one last night :

Chi Mai - Ennio Morricone

A truly beautiful song.
The violins are sampled, but Captain Dread by Dreadzone is really catchy.
The sample by the way is a Patrick Street tune.

Forgot this one :

The Universal - Blur
