the da vinci code - it is worth reading?

ive been lent the book by a friend and think she kinda wants it back so i need to find time to read it. Is it an easy read and could i read it over the course of a day?!

It's a very exciting and well written book. I expected it to be hard work, but it was a very easy read, and I read it on and off over 2 days

i find it so hard to motivate myself to read. i am either too tired or feeling depressed but people do say it is good to get lost in a book.

Potboiler. Yes, you could beat yourself up by reading it in a day. Plot very suspect in several places. No wonder the audience laughed during the movie version.

Sorry to be at odds with some of you, but its a question of taste, you have to read it to find out, I thought it not a bad book, very badly written, more in the style of a ten year old,

Regardless of my opinion of the content, I found the book a very quick and easy read. Done in a day. The chapters are short and the whole structure lends itself to speed reading. Sure, there's some exposition here and there that you may have to slog through, but the overall pace is energetic and engaging, if not well written.

Lonnie's right - you've just got to read it to know if you'll like it. Also, it will help if you consider it total fiction - then it will go a lot faster and probably be more enjoyable. A good vacation read. (And I'm an art history major who also laughed loud and often at the movie.)

I agree with Lonnie in that it's all a matter of taste.

I loved the book, found it pacey and exciting with lots of twists and turns. But I know quite a few who didn't like it for various reasons. Contentious premise apart, they say that it's poorly written and caters to the lowest common denominator in terms of reading taste (ie, it's not 'literary'). They say characters are one-dimensional and plot is predictable - and most other things people say about books they don't like.

All I will say is, start reading it. If you don't like it, then leave it. If you do, fine, and if your friend wants it back before you've finished, then either get it from the library and go and buy a copy, because at least then you know you won't have wasted your money.

Just read it. Afterwards you'll feel dirty. You'll be able to make yourself feel better by reading something good.

it's ok - airport novel type of thing, badly written but the plot's brisk (the conspiracy theories... well, make your own mind up). Depending on how fast you read, you could do it in a day.

Again, I agree with Lonnie. Badly written and simple, seemed to me a bit like a Nancy Drew mystery.

Read it. It's good fun. Very exciting. Just remember it's a novel; it's pretend. I love several of the Jeffrey Archer books. They're fun. They do not pretend to be high literature. They are extremely enjoyable. You don't have to like Jeffrey Archer to enjoy his books. They are great fun.
